Channings Hotel Location
Channings enjoys a quiet location, set on a cobbled street overlooking private gardens, yet is only 10 minutes walk from the west end, where you can explore the city's many tourist attractions, such as Princes Street, the main shopping area overlooking Edinburgh Castle.
Should you wish to stay very close to home, Channings is just a short stroll from the very fashionable area of Stockbridge, often described as a 'village within the city'. Relax and unwind as you enjoy the vibrant cafe-culture that has developed and wander through the many one of a kind boutiques and galleries which have emerged in recent years, making this one of Edinburgh's trendiest areas.

Channings Hotel Description
The privately owned Channings Hotel was created from several Georgian townhouses, which have been made into one quite special property suitable for both business and leisure travellers. The hotel was once home to Sir Ernest Shackleton and in honour of this Antarctic explorer there is an understated theme of exploration throughout the hotel. With the charm of a country house combined with the convenience of being in a city centre, your stay in this hotel will be made all the more enjoyable thanks to the friendly, caring staff.
The lobby has two intimate lounges both with comfortable leather sofas, antique style furniture and large ornate fireplace. A WIFI internet connection is available in the lounge area: an ideal place to relax after a day in the shops of Princes Street!
The lounge leads to the basement wine bar and onto the restaurant. Guests can enjoy the nice weather by taking advantage of the private terrace behind the property or may make use of the locked gardens to the front.
There are 41 bedrooms in the hotel, all designed and decorated individually and to a high standard. The rooms are elegant and have a mixture of bright tones and plush fabrics.
Superior rooms have roll top baths and separate showers while the standard rooms have showers over the baths. Complimentary Molton Brown toiletries are provided in all bathrooms for added indulgence. All bedrooms are fitted with flat screen televisions, and Internet access. There is a separate Internet connection available for those guests with their own laptops.
Most of the rooms have oversize zip-link beds which allows guests the flexibility of requesting either a twin room or a king size double.
Rooms do not have a mini bar but the hotel operates a 24-hour room service. The basement wine bar is very popular with both residents and local clientele and offers a large selection of wines, cocktails and spirits. Bar meals are available both at lunchtime and in the evenings.
Channings Restaurant is a delightful, neighbourhood bistro with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a well-edited all day menu. The chef Karen Higgins uses fresh, seasonal and organic ingredients wherever possible, and has come up with some great taste combinations.
Breakfast consists of large buffet with all hot food being cooked to order.
There is no private parking at the hotel although on street parking in this primarily residential area is currently free of charge.

As a single traveller I was delighted to be given a room on the front with a view of Fettes College. The concierge and evening restaurant staff extemely helpful and polite. I wish the same could be said about the breakfast staff. I asked if it were possible to have a pancake, not an outrageous request for a hotel of this rating. Waitress replied that she'd ask, but what would I like if not possible! Needless to say I was given bacon and sausage that had obviously been cooked for a good while. Breakfast spoiled what was otherwise a lovely experience.
Top Tip
Take plenty of money for parking, £1:00 per hour for a maximum of Four hours in anyone place severely limits what you can do during the day.

Vist Stockbridge as an alternative to central Edinburgh. A very nice, up-market area with great bars and restaurants. 5 minutes in a cab.

No 28 Charlotte Square for tea and scones. Camera Obscura great fun and a brilliant way to see the city and it's history before you explore it even more.

The Hotel is lovely but the staff really do make this hotel excellent.
Bedroom was a little smaller than I expected for the price of the hotel, although had everything you'd need.
