Our arrival on the 24th August was OK for Myself and Husband and we were enjoying our stay until Saturday 25th when our friends were due to join us at this hotel (all booked together in March)and they were informed that because the hotel had double booked they didn't have a room for them, therefore we kicked up a fuss and as well as friends being found other accom. we were also as we were a party. The Carlton did very well here, we got upgraded rooms at another hotel, free dinner with wine, champagne etc. and taxi's if we needed them. Our thanks go to the General Manager Martin Kemp for cooling the situation and organising the transfer.Who was to Blame for this Double Booking, Hotel or Yourselves?? would like your comments, as this should never have happened.
Top Tip
Check your reservation with the hotel the evening before your arrival to make sure there is no double bookings.
Lots to see and do, very central location. A trip to Leith Docks to HMY Brittania is a must. The Castle and Royal Mile is easy walking distance as is most of the sites, although can be hilly.

I'd recommend it but with real reservations re breakfast. I don't like musak but can put up with it. But this was really loud and intrusive. Meanwhile my wife couldn't be supplied with Earl Grey tea (she won't drink the normal stuff). The end result was that we had breakfast out after the first day.

Our rooms were spacious and clean, however we found the service throughout very poor. I ordered ice at 5pm we left the hotel at 7pm and it still hadn't arrived. One morning there was NO white bread for breakfast, no fruit nor mushrooms. On the evening they had run out of ALL first 4 choices of wine we ordered. Obviously the only ones left were the MOST expensive bottles. The cost of drinks in the hotel bar were very high, and we were not the only ones to complain about that.

Outside the hotel there are MANY very good eating places within walking distance. The Wee Window just a few doors up The Royal Mile was excelent, Creelers just over the road had superb seafood.

The restaurant struggled to cope especially when coach parties there - noone to show people to tables, delays for plates etc. But food itself good. Go when the Fringe is on. Nowhere like it in the world!

Not enough staff in the bar area, at one point only one person serving on a Saturday night during the Festival.
Poor level of stock during breakfast.
