a superb hotel in a great location, in the trendier part of Edinburgh.Walking distance to all the other attractions. We will be staying here again. The food in the Restaurant and Bar was excellent. Loads of other bars nearby to choose from.

We arrieved @ 10.30 0nly to find that the hotel had OVER Booked us. No room available. Aftert a wait they got us another 4 Star hotel which was OK but 20 minutes walk from Princess ST. Not where we wanted to be.They paid for one taxi transfer. They later agreed to Pay for a main course meal at a restaurant. I asked them to advise me of special offer weekends,But havent heard from them since?
I felt hard done by as we missed our tour of the Castle.

Double room much too small.
Double bed tight against a wall so one person could not get out of bed without disturbing the other. Not good for older, less mobile people.

Very few facilities for guests, esp guests with children. Hotel clearly geared towards overseas tourist trade.
Top Tip
Don't plan to spend much time in the hotel.

Hotel was alot nicer than I imagined. The refurbished rooms are very tastefully decorated and room was very big (ideal for familys!). Restaurant very grand and plenty of choice for breakfast.

Whilst the hotel itself seems very nice, I'm afraid that my husband and I had a very disappointing stay. We were allocated a frankly poor room, the only room bigger than a broom cupboard available, since it was the weekend of the Scotland v Ireland Rugby match. Having paid some £820 for the priviledge, we were furious to be in a barely finished room ( following refurbishment) with a bath that wouldn't drain, views of the kitchen extractor fans and the accompanying noise, paint splattered headboard frame (not upholstered). Whilst the staff did their best, they could not offer anything better and have refused to refund any of the huge cost, to at least their standard rate.
We would never stay again. As regular visitors to Edinburgh, we will in future look to a properly upmarket hotel, such as the Scotsman or the Balmoral. Equally well placed, we would have stayed at one of these alternatives had the hotel been honest about their shortage of decent accomodation at time of booking.
The experience cast a shadow on would should have been a lovely weekend, staying in some style, with no children, to attend a wedding in the city.
It has been the Hotel's subsequent responses That we have found even more irritating, and on this basis, I wouldn't recommend The George Hotel.
