Excellent hotel, very good facilities. Good location for Rose Street (drinking)and Princes Street (shopping)and a steady walk to the majority of sites.
Top Tip
Good comfortable shoes for walking to the Royal Mile/High Street or the Castle. Scottish Parliament - very strange building.

Excellent facilities with a late breakfast at the weekend. There is a Georgian House in the Square which is well worth a visit.
Top Tip
No problem finding restaurants without the need to book.

Comment
We arrived in August for the Fringe Festival, therefore, the hotel was well placed and had good facilities.
Top Tip
Edinburgh is a thriving town with plenty to keep all ages and pocket sizes busy. Take a coat and a comfortable pair of shoes.

Traveller from Wellington stayed in May, 2007
Comment
Good staff, breakfast, public areas and location. Bad room layout, armchair faced wardrobe 2 foot away, side on to the back of the TV. Impossible for one of us to get to either wardrobe or gloomy dressing table if the other was sitting. Hotel lift had been out of commission for eight weeks - 50 Edinburgh stairs up after a day's sightseeing - not nice when you're 70. Like Brittania the hotel is trading on past glories.
Top Tip
public buses £1 a journey. Good restuarants Brown's in George Street, Italian in Hanover Street, didn't like Thai in Rose Street.

They need to put a new lift and repair the 2nd one. The existing lift is so slow that during morning check out it is impossible to come down.
Top Tip
Ideal location for shops and restaurants.

Traveller from Norwich stayed in April, 2007
Comment
The first morning we had a 30 minute wait for breakfast - which is not what is expected at any hotel let alone a 4 star establishment.
Otherwise very good.
Top Tip
Good location for bars and eateries around the corner on George Street.
